Places in Pausanias’ Periegesis Displayed in Four Different Tables

With Links to Wikidata, to Book Sections and to Maps

You can download all four tables as CSV, XML or JSON files, or you can search in them and download the search results. Please read the information about searching and sorting the table, which you can see by clicking on the question mark (?) on the top of the tables.

The four tables correspond to the following four sorting alternatives:

1. By Alphabet: Places are sorted alphabetically, by their annotation names, which are repeated if they are encountered in different Book Sections.
2. By Section: Books, Chapters and Sections are sorted numerically, from Book 1 to 10,. The same Book Section is repeated for every Place Name mentioned in it, and the same Place names can be repeated if they are mentioned in different sections.
3. Grouped Within Sections: Includes numerically sorted distinct Book Section, where all Place Names within a section are alphabetically grouped together into a table column.
4. Within Grouped Sections: Includes alphabetically sorted distinct Place Names, while all Book Sections where the same Place Name is encountered are grouped together as a list into a table column.
   
   However, distinct Place Names might not be unique, as they might refer to different entities.
   • Place names with the same external Link and the same Map Coordinates are listed once, as distinct places, referring probably to a unique entity. Else, they are listed separately, as different entities.
   • The description (TAGS and COMMENT) of every distinct Place Name is also included in a separate table column. If a distinct name is encountered in different sections, its respective descriptions are grouped together in a numeric list corresponding to the list of sections.
   • Obs! Place Names without external link or Map Coordinates are listed once, as distinct places, although they usually refer to different entities. However, you can compare the parallel lists of sections and descriptions to figure out their differences.
